Rectal route

Rectal ozonotherapy, more commonly known as "rectal ozone insufflation", is a systemic approach that has been shown to be just as effective as autohemotherapy, is well tolerated by animals and offers a number of specific advantages.

Rectal insufflation of ozone

Rectal insufflation is a method of administering ozone therapy in the same way as autohemotherapy. Let's explore the aspects that make this approach relevant and beneficial to animal welfare:

Rapid absorption : The rectal membrane is rich in blood vessels, which promotes rapid absorption of ozone into the bloodstream. This allows the beneficial effects of ozone therapy to spread rapidly through the body.

Non-invasive : Rectal insufflation is a non-invasive and painless procedure, minimising stress and discomfort for the animal. It eliminates the need for more complex invasive procedures, which is particularly advantageous for sensitive or anxious animals.

Local treatment and systemic effects : As well as treating local pelvic and colorectal conditions, rectal insufflation also has systemic effects. This systemic nature is the result of several mechanisms of action of ozone when administered by this route, allowing its benefits to spread beyond the initial area of administration. When ozone is introduced into the rectum, it is rapidly absorbed by the blood vessels in the rectal mucosa. This allows the ozone to pass into the systemic circulation, going beyond this specific area to encompass systemic aspects that we explain with autohemotherapy. It is important to stress that the concentration of ozone used, the duration of treatment and other specific parameters can influence the extent of systemic effects.

Process

1. Preparation: Before insufflation, it is necessary to ensure that the animal has had a bowel movement to guarantee better absorption of the ozone by the rectal membrane.

2. Controlled administration: A specific device is used to generate ozone and administer it in a controlled manner into the animal's rectum. The ozone concentration and duration of insufflation are carefully adjusted according to the specific medical condition.

3. Monitoring: During the process, the animal is carefully monitored to ensure its comfortability and well-being. Rectal insufflation is generally rapid and minimally intrusive.

4. Post-treatment : After treatment, the animal may resume normal activities without the need for prolonged recovery time (subject to instructions given by the veterinarian).

Ozonotherapy can also be administered via other routes, such as the cutaneous route, depending on your pet's situation.
